Don’t Miss the 2020 Farm Bill Deadline

February 4, 2020

Kristin Lawson, Communications Coordinator

The 1st Choice Seeds team recently gathered for our first meeting of the new year. It’s always a good time when our team comes together! We are able to share ideas and learn from each other to better serve you. During our time together, Chris Linville shared some information that I thought would be valuable for our customers. I interviewed Chris to find out more.

Interview with Seed Specialist, Chris Linville:

Kristin: Chris, you mentioned a new program for this year that our farmers might be interested in. What is the program called?

Chris: It’s the new 2020 farm bill.

Kristin: What does the program do for farmers. How does it benefit them?

Chris: Different counties will offer different programs. You’ll have options depending on how your county did in 2019. All of the states that 1st Choice Seeds sells to will be eligible for the program.

Kristin: What do you need to do to sign up for this program?

Chris: Go to your local FSA office to sign up. They will guide you on what needs to be done. They even have information about online tools that can help you with the program.

Kristin: When is the deadline?

Chris: March 15, 2020 is the deadline. The rules have changed this year, as far as sign up. There are normally extensions available, but there is no forgiveness for late sign up this year…. it’s a hard March 15th deadline.

Kristin: What information needs to be submitted?

Chris: They will tell you at the FSA office. They have all of the information you will need.

Kristin: Is there any other information you want to make sure our farmers know about?

Chris: It is really important to sign up before that March 15th deadline, you don’t want to lose these possible benefits.
